Hawks entertain Grizzlies in Dixie

Dec 1, 2010 - 4:06 PM (Sports Network) - Coming off one of their more impressive victories in recent years, the Memphis Grizzlies will try to keep the momentum going tonight against the Atlanta Hawks at Philips Arena.

Memphis held on for a 98-96 win over the two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers last night, as Mike Conley poured in 28 points and Rudy Gay finished with 14 for the Grizzlies, who shot 48.8 percent and got 13 points and eight rebounds from Zach Randolph.

"Mike played a great game tonight," Memphis coach Lionel Hollins said. "He has to go back it up tomorrow night when we play the Atlanta Hawks, as we all do as a team. It's just his fourth year in the league, and the kid has a long ways to go, as do all of our young players. They've got a long ways to go."

Lakers future Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant finished with a game-high 29 points.

The Grizzlies have won four of five since a five-game slide and will try to put the brakes on a three-game road losing streak tonight. They are 2-6 outside of FedEx Forum in 2010-11.

Atlanta has won three in a row and will begin a two-game homestand tonight versus the Hawks and 76ers.

In Sunday's 96-78 triumph in Toronto, Josh Smith posted his third career triple-double with 12 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists, while Marvin Williams finished with a game-best 17 points and grabbed 12 boards.

"I always like to play with a lot of energy and effort," Smith said. "The offense wasn't there today, but I was able to exploit my passing abilities and defense."

Joe Johnson contributed 16 points and is questionable for tonight with a sore right shooting elbow. The Hawks are only 4-5 as the host this season.

Atlanta beat Memphis, 119-104, on the road this season back on Oct. 27 and has won three straight and eight of the past nine encounters. The Grizzlies are winless in four straight and 12 of 15 games at Philips Arena.
