Clips seek first road win vs. Nuggets
Dec 3, 2010 - 3:48 PM (Sports Network) - The Denver Nuggets shoot for their sixth straight win when they close out a four-game homestand tonight versus the Los Angeles Clippers from the Pepsi Center.Denver has won five straight and improved to 3-0 on the residency with Wednesday's 105-94 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. Nene scored 24 points, J.R. Smith had 20 with 10 rebounds and Carmelo Anthony was ejected in the third quarter for receiving two technical fouls in a 46-second span near the end of the period.
Anthony, who left Sunday's win over Phoenix after just 2:48 because of a chest cold, finished with 14 points for the Nuggets, who are 8-1 in the Rocky Mountains this season.
"We were in a good place when 'Melo left and I thought we kept it up and sustained it and finished off a game for the first time in a while," said Denver head coach George Karl.
The Clippers are still searching for their first road win of the season (0-8) and have won three of five games since a nine-game slide.
They were able to cool off the surging San Antonio Spurs and halt an 18-game losing streak in the series with a 90-85 victory on Wednesday at Staples Center. Blake Griffin poured in 31 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to help LA top the Spurs for the first time since March 7, 2006.
"He's full of highlights," said Clippers teammate Baron Davis, who returned from a knee injury and played for the first time since November 9, dishing out 10 assists in the win. "I've never seen a rookie come in and dominate big guys."
Eric Gordon was the only other scorer in double figures with 21 points, as the Clippers made 49.3 percent of their shots and had a 50-43 rebounding edge.
Los Angeles will also visit Portland on the brief road swing. In injury news for the team, guard Randy Foye (hamstring) and center Chris Kaman (ankle) are both listed as questionable tonight.
Denver defeated the Clippers, 111-104, on Nov. 5 this season in the Rockies and has won three straight and 10 of the last 11 matchups in the series. The Clippers have dropped eight in a row at the Pepsi Center.
