Raptors resume homestand vs. Thunder
Dec 3, 2010 - 4:07 PM (Sports Network) - The Toronto Raptors resume a four-game homestand tonight against an Oklahoma City Thunder team that has been beating up on the Eastern Conference recently. The Thunder won their seventh straight game on the road against East foes on Wednesday when Russell Westbrook took over in the third overtime, scoring all 13 of Oklahoma City's points in the session en route to a memorable 123-120 victory over the New Jersey Nets.
Westbrook filled the box score with 38 points, a career-high 15 rebounds and nine assists as the Thunder won for the third time in four contests.
The NBA's reigning scoring champion, Kevin Durant, sat out with a knee injury, and Jeff Green took over some of the scoring burden with 37 points, including three free throws to tie the game at the end of the second OT.
Durant, who is averaging a league-best 27.3 ppg this season, is questionable for tonight but the Thunder have been surprisingly effective without him this year thanks in large part to Westbrook, an emerging superstar in his own right.
Oklahoma City is 3-0 without Durant in the lineup this season with Westbrook averaging 29.0 points, 9.0 assists and 5.3 rebounds in those games.
The Raptors, meanwhile, improved to 1-1 on their residency Wednesday when DeMar DeRozan scored 20 points, as Toronto extended Washington's road woes with a 127-108 rout at Air Canada Centre.
Andrea Bargnani and Sonny Weems both scored 18 for the Raptors, who stopped a two-game skid.
"In the last game we weren't moving the ball," said recently-acquired Toronto guard Jerryd Bayless, who had 16 points and five assists. "Tonight everyone was able to get touches and we were able to get good looks as a team."
Leandro Barbosa also added 16 points off the bench for Toronto while rookie first-round pick Ed Davis, who had been out with a knee injury, scored 11 points with six rebounds and two blocks in his NBA debut. Davis' production will be very important in the coming weeks since the Raptors' top rebounder, Reggie Evans, will miss the next eight weeks with a broken bone in his right foot.
Oklahoma City swept the home-and-home series between the two clubs a year ago.
