Brown, Bobcats visit Sixers
Dec 4, 2010 - 3:47 PM (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia 76ers will try and put another late-game collapse behind them when Larry Brown and the Charlotte Bobcats invade the City of Brotherly Love tonight.Al Horford's go-ahead three-point play with 31.1 seconds left last night gave Atlanta its first lead of the game, as the Hawks rallied from an 18-point deficit and edged the offensively-challenged Sixers, 93-88, at Philips Arena.
Horford scored 15 and added 14 rebounds, and Marvin Williams ended with a game-high 22 points for Atlanta, which finished the game on a 15-1 spurt.
The Hawks, who have won five straight, held Philadelphia without a field goal over the final 5:26 of the game. The Sixers missed their final 11 shots from the field in the fourth.
"We tried to put the ball in some guys' hands but we just couldn't get a basket," said Sixers head coach Doug Collins. "That's been my concern all year long. In a close game we couldn't find a basket. Our defense was good enough to win; we lost the last four games like that. It's pretty disheartening for our guys."
Elton Brand led Philadelphia with 16 points and 14 boards and Lou Williams contributed 12 points and six assists for the Sixers, who had their two-game winning streak snapped.
Andre Iguodala scored 10 and added eight rebounds and eight assists, and Evan Turner supplied 11 points in the loss. The Sixers shot just 4-of-20 from the field in the last quarter, blowing a 13-point advantage.
The Bobcats, meanwhile, snapped a two-game skid with a 91-84 overtime win over New Jersey in the Queen City on Friday. Stephen Jackson returned from a one- game suspension for arguing with officials to post 25 points, six assists and five rebounds, as Charlotte outlasted the Nets in the extra frame.
The Bobcats used solid defense to make up for its own shooting woes, holding New Jersey to 31.9 percent from the field -- including a 2-for-12 effort in the extra session.
"It was an ugly win, but it was still a win," Jackson said. "Our defense was superb."
Three Bobcats finished with double-doubles in points and rebounds, as Boris Diaw had 11 and 16, Nazr Mohammed went for 14 and 11 and Gerald Wallace added 12 and 13 in the win, Brown's 1,096th in his Hall of Fame coaching career.
Charlotte, which has dropped four straight on the road, has taken three consecutive over the Sixers, a team Brown coached from 1997 to 2003. Philadelphia, on the other hand, has won three straight at Wells Fargo Center.
