Fisher's buzzer-beater lifts Lakers over Clippers
Dec 9, 2010 - 7:09 AM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Derek Fisher made a driving layup as time expired to lift the Los Angeles Lakers over the Los Angeles Clippers, 87-86.Kobe Bryant scored 24 points for the Lakers, who have won three in a row since a four-game skid. Shannon Brown donated 16 points and five rebounds off the bench, while Pau Gasol tallied 10 points and 10 boards for the victors.
Eric Gordon finished with 24 points and five rebounds for the Clippers, who have dropped five of seven. Blake Griffin had 16 points and 11 boards, while Eric Bledsoe chipped in with 11 points and seven assists in defeat.
"A tough one to swallow," Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro said. "The turnovers in the fourth quarter hurt us. Fisher made a big shot at the end. We have to play smarter."
The Lakers started the fourth on a 10-2 run to take the lead. Brown capped the surge with a technical free throw to make it a 75-73 game with 7:48 to play.
The Clippers used an ensuing 10-2 burst of their own to go back in front. Gordon tallied eight points during the stretch, including a trey with 4:36 remaining to give the Clippers an 83-77 margin.
Gordon made 1-of-2 from the foul line with 1:14 left to give the Clippers an 84-79 advantage. Gordon, though, essentially blew the game with two turnovers in the final minute.
After Gasol made a 16-foot jumper, Ron Artest stole the ball from Gordon. Bryant turned the steal into a running jumper to cut the deficit to 84-83 with 41.7 seconds to play. Artest recorded another steal off Gordon on the Clippers' next trip down the court, and Bryant made a 19-foot jumper this time for an 85-84 Lakers lead.
DeAndre Jordan's slam with 15.5 ticks to go put the Clippers back in front by one, 86-85. With a foul to give, Gordon fouled Bryant with 3.1 seconds remaining. Fisher took the inbounds pass and drove the lane for the winning bucket.
"When I caught the ball I knew I had three seconds left," Fisher said. "I had to get the ball high off the glass. I was fortunate to get it off in time."
The Lakers held a 20-18 edge after 12 minutes of action, but the Clippers surged ahead in the second quarter for a 43-41 halftime lead.
The Clippers outscored the Lakers, 28-24, in the third to take a 71-65 margin into the fourth.
