Roy paces Blazers over Suns

Dec 11, 2010 - 5:50 AM Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Brandon Roy's game-high 26 points led a balanced Portland offense to a 101-94 win over Phoenix at US Airways Center.

LaMarcus Aldridge scored 23, and Marcus Camby and Wesley Matthews both added 16 for the Blazers, who have won four straight. Camby added 18 rebounds and Andre Miller finished with 10 points and nine assists in the victory.

Steve Nash led the Suns with 24 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Grant Hill finished with 17 points for Phoenix, which has lost three straight. Hakim Warrick supplied 14 points and six rebounds off the bench and Channing Frye contributed 12 points in the loss.

"Bottom line is that we didn't have enough stops," said Suns head coach Alvin Gentry. "At the end of the night they forced their will on us from a pace standpoint."

Portland had a 28-22 lead after a back-and-forth first quarter.

Matthews added 14 in the second quarter on 5-of-5 from the field, including a deep three-pointer at 2:13 that put Portland up 56-45. The Suns trimmed the margin to 61-53 heading into the half.

Aldridge made two from the line at 8:53 to put the Blazers up 73-61, and connected on a thundering dunk 1 1/2 minutes later to extend the lead to 14.

Portland's lead reached as high as 16 in the final two minutes, but after Phoenix's Jared Dudley connected on a short jumper with 25.3 seconds left, the Blazers' lead was 87-73 heading into the fourth.

Dante Cunningham's dunk off an Aldridge missed free-throw in the opening minute of the fourth put the Blazers up 17, 90-73, their largest of the game, but Phoenix responded with a 15-4 run -- capped by a Hedo Turkoglu three -- with 2:09 remaining to make it a two-possession game.

After Roy connected on a short jumper at 1:06 Portland sealed the victory at the free-throw line. Aldridge made the back end of two from the line, and after Nash connected on a driving layup it was Matthews icing the outcome by draining a set of free throws.

Nash again saw a driving layup fall with 26.7 seconds left, but the Suns were forced to foul, and Miller made two from the line to put the game at 101-92.

The Suns missed their next two shots in the final 20 seconds and Nash's jumper with 9.6 ticks remaining accounted for the final margin.

"We were able to have a lead in the fourth quarter and they're a great team and they were going to make a run," said Camby "They cut it down to six but we were able to withstand their run and get some stops down the stretch to pull the win out."

Game Notes

This was the second meeting between these teams this week, Portland won 106-99 on Tuesday...The Blazers' four-game streak comes on the heels of a season- worst six-game slide...This is the first of a four-game road trip for Portland...The Blazers' Joel Przybilla missed the game for personal reasons...The Blazers have won four-of-five in this series...Camby's 16 points were a season-high...The Suns won the rebounding margin, 39-36...Phoenix made 17-of-17 from the line, while Portland was 26-of-32...Dudley's jumper at the end of the third were his only points of the game.
