Mavs seek 12th straight win vs. Jazz

Dec 11, 2010 - 4:03 PM (Sports Network) - A pair of Western Conference powers collide tonight in Big D, as the Dallas Mavericks shoot for their 12th straight win against the Utah Jazz at American Airlines Center.

Dallas has ripped off 11 straight wins and is aiming for its seventh consecutive victory at home. It is 10-3 at home this season and improved to 2-0 on a six-game homestand with Thursday's 102-89 victory over New Jersey.

Dirk Nowitzki had 21 points and 10 rebounds, Shawn Marion added 18 points off the bench and both Caron Butler and Jason Terry scored 15 points to keep Dallas unbeaten since November 19. Jose Barea also came off the bench to dish out a career-high 13 assists in 27 minutes.

"Give credit to the defense," said Butler, who has scored 15 or more points in three of his last four games. "That's something we've honed since training camp."

The Mavericks, who handed out a season-best 31 assists against the Nets, are on their longest winning streak since prevailing 13 times in a row from Feb. 17 - March 10, 2010. The longest winning streak ever recorded by Dallas lasted 17 games (1/27/07 -3/11/07). Dallas will also entertain Milwaukee, Portland and Phoenix on the residency.

Dallas' 18-4 record marks its best start through 22 games since 2002-03, when it began the season 14-0 and held a ledger of 19-3 after 22 games. It is 11-0 when scoring 100-plus points in a game and 15-1 when recording at least 95 points in a contest this season.

Utah just completed a six-game homestand with a 4-2 mark and is coming off Friday's 117-105 triumph over Orlando.

Deron Williams recorded a season-best 32 points and nine assists, C.J. Miles added 26 points and Paul Millsap netted 22 for the Jazz, who bounced back from a 13-point home loss to Miami on Wednesday.

"We were a little down after we dropped one at home against Miami," Millsap said. "We came into tonight with a chip on our shoulder trying to show everybody that we can compete in this league."

Andrei Kirilenko had 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Al Jefferson ended with 16 points in a winning effort. The Jazz will now put their six-game road winning streak on the line tonight and are 7-2 away from Salt Lake City.

On the injury front for the Jazz, defensive guard Raja Bell is questionable for tonight's game with a strained right adductor/groin.

Dallas recently defeated the Jazz, 93-81, on Dec. 3 in Utah. The Jazz have lost 14 of their last 17 contests in Big D.
