Improving Sixers keep Clippers winless on road
Dec 16, 2010 - 3:31 AM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Jrue Holiday scored a game-high 24 points and the Philadelphia 76ers continued their winning ways with a 105-91 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. The Sixers began the season with a 3-13 record but have since won seven of nine, including three in a row. They turned the ball over just five times on Wednesday while scoring 23 points off 15 giveaways from the Clippers, who are winless in 11 road games.
Andre Iguodala scored 16 of his 20 points in a strong second half for Philadelphia, while Spencer Hawes chipped in 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Blake Griffin posted another double-double -- 20 points and 18 rebounds -- to go with five assists, but it wasn't enough to snap LA's three-game slide.
"The team has struggled for awhile on the road," Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro said. "You have to play more unselfish. I didn't like our effort at all."
A Griffin jumper midway through the third gave the Clippers a 68-65 lead, but the Sixers held the visitors to one field goal the rest of the frame.
Iguodala drained a three-pointer for an 80-70 lead with under 2 1/2 minutes left and capped a quarter-ending 22-6 flurry by going end-to-end and converting a layup while getting fouled in the closing seconds.
The free throw yielded an 87-74 cushion, and six minutes into the final frame Elton Brand's step-back jumper made it a 97-81 advantage.
The Clippers never closed within single digits from there.
"We feel very confident and we're playing well," Brand said.
LA held a 29-28 lead after 12 minutes and 56-53 edge at the conclusion of a tight opening half.
