Raptors edge Mavericks, win in Dallas for first time since 1999
Dec 29, 2010 - 7:24 AM Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Ed Davis scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds off the bench, as the Toronto Raptors topped the Dallas Mavericks, 84-76, for their first win in Dallas in over a decade.DeMar DeRozan and Linas Kleiza both finished with 16 points and Amir Johnson added 12 for Toronto, which had not won in Dallas since December 1999.
"It's great. It's a great team effort," Raptors guard Jerryd Bayless said. "I think everyone did their job."
Jason Terry scored a game-high 18 points to go along with six assists, Caron Butler added 15 points and Shawn Marion ended with 12 for the Mavericks, who played without forward Dirk Nowitzki.
Nowitzki is out with a sprained right knee, which he suffered during the second quarter of Monday's 103-93 victory over Oklahoma City, and is listed as day-to-day.
Toronto started the third on a 7-0 run -- capped by DeRozan mid range and turnaround jump shots -- to give the Raptors a 53-40 lead. However, the Mavericks responded with a 12-3 run, to cut the Raptors advantage to 56-52 with just over five minutes remaining.
Toronto shot 29.4 percent from the field in the third, as Dallas put the game at a manageable 64-59 deficit heading into the fourth.
Dallas came out flat in the fourth quarter, shooting only 38 percent from the field, including 1-of-9 from beyond the arc, and the Raptors stayed in protection mode down the stretch to seal the victory.
"I think Toronto played a great game, and we were subpar," Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said. "We got off to a sluggish start, particularly defensively."
A slow first quarter by the Mavericks -- 20 percent from the field, seven turnovers -- allowed the Raptors to take a 23-13 lead after the opening 12 minutes. Kleiza scored 10 in the second quarter as the Raptors held a 46-40 lead at the half.
