Spurs shoot for another triumph over Wolves

Jan 9, 2011 - 4:02 PM (Sports Network) - The San Antonio Spurs will try and continue their dominance over the Minnesota Timberwolves when the two clubs collide Sunday in the opener of a home-and-home series from the AT&T Center.

San Antonio has won 14 straight and 19 of the past 20 meetings with the Timberwolves, who are winless in their previous 13 trips to the Alamo City. The last time Minnesota defeated the Spurs was during the 2006-07 campaign.

Minnesota will host San Antonio on Tuesday at the Target Center.

The Spurs ended a two-game overall slide with Friday's 90-87 victory in Indiana, as Manu Ginobili scored 25 points and sank a pair of free throws in the waning seconds of the game to keep his team on top. George Hill scored 16 points off the bench and Tim Duncan had 15 points with 15 rebounds for the Spurs, who bounced back from losses in New York and Boston to finish a three- game road swing at 1-2.

"I was proud of our team for hanging in," said San Antonio head coach Gregg Popovich. "They just kept playing the game and that's a great sign."

San Antonio has won 15 of its last 18 games and will put its 19-2 home record on the line tonight. It has won 12 in a row as the host.

Meanwhile, the Timberwolves have lost three straight and 11 of 14 games, including Friday's 108-98 loss versus the Portland Trail Blazers in the Twin Cities.

Kevin Love notched his 32nd double-double of the season and 23rd in a row with 30 points and 19 boards, while Michael Beasley contributed 17 points and four assists for the T'Wolves, who got 10 points and 11 assists from Luke Ridnour.

"You have to put your foot down and let people know this is your home court, and we didn't do that tonight," Ridnour said.

The Wolves held Portland scoreless for over four minutes in the final frame and narrowed the gap to 96-86 following Love's three-point play with 3:43 left in the contest. Portland pulled away after that to record its 14th straight win over Minnesota.

The Timberwolves will hit the road tonight where they are 2-18 in 2010-11.
