Grizzlies invade Charlotte's Time Warner Cable Arena
Jan 10, 2011 - 3:42 PM (Sports Network) - The Memphis Grizzlies look to get back into the win column when they resume a three-game road trip tonight against the Charlotte Bobcats.Memphis had a three-game winning streak stopped with Saturday's 109-100 loss at Oklahoma City in the opener of the road swing. Kevin Durant scored a game- high 40 points to send the Grizzlies packing.
Zach Randolph led Memphis with 27 points and 16 rebounds, while Rudy Gay scored 20 before fouling out late in the contest. O.J. Mayo provided 11 points off the bench for the Grizzlies, who are 6-14 away from FedEx Forum this season and will close out the trek Wednesday in Detroit.
"We didn't play good team defense, didn't help each other out a lot," said Gay, who has scored 20 or more points in four straight contests.
The Grizzlies lost despite having a 60-38 advantage in the paint. They currently lead the NBA in points in the paint for a second consecutive season with 48.5 points inside after scoring 51.4 points down low in 2009-10.
Memphis also leads the league in forced turnovers (17.5), steals (9.73) and points off turnovers (19.3).
Charlotte is 4-2 under new head coach Paul Silas and recorded its second straight win with Saturday's 104-89 victory over Washington in the opener of a three-game homestand at Time Warner Cable Arena.
Stephen Jackson had 21 points, 10 rebounds and five assists to lead the charge, and D.J. Augustin added 20 points and nine assists for the Bobcats, who improved to 9-9 at home and will also host Chicago. Gerald Henderson registered a career-high 19 points and nine boards in a winning cause.
"That's big, the deeper we are the more threats we have, the better we are on offense," Jackson said of teammate Augustin and Henderson. "If those guys stay aggressive we're going to be hard to stop."
Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace missed his third straight game with a left ankle injury. He is doubtful for Monday's game. Jackson has scored 20 points or more in each of his last six games, averaging 24.3 points per game over that stretch. Henderson is averaging 10.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.0 steal in his last four games.
Memphis snapped a four-game losing streak to the Bobcats with a 113-80 victory on Dec. 15 this season at FedEx Forum. The Grizzlies are winless in their last three visits to Charlotte, however.
