76ers welcome Grizzlies to south Philly

Jan 28, 2011 - 4:25 PM (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia 76ers shoot for a season-high fourth straight win tonight when they welcome a shorthanded Memphis Grizzlies team to Wells Fargo Center.

Marreese Speights scored a season-high 23 points and added nine rebounds on Wednesday as the Sixers captured their third straight win with a 107-94 victory over Toronto at Air Canada Centre.

Lou Williams, Jrue Holiday and Andre Iguodala each added 15 points for Philadelphia, which snapped a five-game road losing streak. Holiday dished out 11 assists for the victors.

"We just wanted to contain [DeMar] DeRozan and [Andrea] Bargnani, they're go- to guys," Sixers forward Elton Brand said. "We came out flat in the first quarter then [Speights] came alive in the second quarter off the bench and gave us a big lift."

Philadelphia hasn't won four consecutive games since taking five in a row from Jan. 31-Feb. 9.

The Grizzlies, meanwhile, fell to 2-1 on a four-game road trip Wednesday when Devin Harris made two key free throws with 10.6 seconds left, as the New Jersey Nets rallied past Memphis, 93-88.

Rudy Gay finished with 22 points and six boards for the Grizzlies, who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Zach Randolph donated 20 points and 16 rebounds for Memphis, which got 16 points, five assists and five boards from Mike Conley.

Marc Gasol tallied 12 points, six boards and five assists for the Grizzlies, who received some bad news off the floor Thursday when the NBA suspended guard O.J. Mayo 10 games without pay for violating the league's drug policy.

Mayo was handed the ban after testing positive for dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), which is a steroid hormone that is naturally produced by the body in the adrenal glands.

"I'm extremely disappointed that I'm going to miss the next 10 games, particularly as our club is making a push for the playoffs," Mayo said in a statement. "I had no idea that the over-the-counter supplement that I took was a substance banned by the NBA. It was an honest mistake, but I take full responsibility for my actions.

"I apologize to my fans, teammates and the Grizzlies organization for regrettably not doing the necessary research about what supplements I can put in my body."

The 23-year-old USC product and third-year pro will be eligible to return when Memphis hosts Philly on Feb. 15.

"O.J. had a lack of judgment but has shown complete accountability. We will continue to support O.J. during this time as we have from the moment he joined the team in 2008," said Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley. "He has unselfishly done everything we have asked of him, and we expect him to grow as a player and a person from this experience."

The Sixers have won six of seven versus Memphis.
