Another double-double for Griffin as Clips stretch home win streak

Jan 30, 2011 - 6:47 AM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Blake Griffin got his 38th double-double of the season, scoring 24 points with 10 rebounds to lead the Los Angeles Clippers to a 103-88 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats.

Randy Foye added a 21 points as the Clippers opened a three-game homestand by winning their eighth straight at Staples Center. LA snapped a two-game overall losing streak, also getting 18 points from Ryan Gomes.

Charlotte had a three-game winning streak halted and fell to 3-1 on a six-game road trip that will wrap up with at Utah on Monday and Detroit on Wednesday.

The Bobcats, who were aiming for a franchise-record fifth straight road win, were led by 14 points apiece from Stephen Jackson and Gerald Henderson.

D.J. Augustin added 13 points in Charlotte's second loss in the last seven games.

The Bobcats trailed by as many as 25 points in the third quarter but made a game of it as head coach Paul Silas went mostly with his bench players down the stretch.

Center Kwame Brown was the only starter who played in the fourth quarter. Henderson and fellow reserves Shaun Livingston, Derrick Brown and Matt Carroll played all 12 minutes. Henderson scored 11 of his 14 points in the period.

"I wanted to give them a chance. We really didn't have much from our starting unit tonight," said Silas. "We did the best we could, we just need to get some rest and get ready for the next one."

Charlotte trailed 83-60 entering the fourth, but Henderson hit a jumper out of the gate to kickstart a 12-0 run and the Bobcats were within 83-72 with 7:37 remaining.

Foye buried a three at 7:11 for LA's first points of the quarter and the Clippers allowed Charlotte to get no closer than 11 points the rest of the way, shutting down the comeback.

Baron Davis added 12 points and 11 assists in the win -- but should have had one more helper.

The game, like a lot of Clippers' contests these days, was a highlight reel for Griffin, the leading NBA Rookie of the Year candidate known for his finishing dunks. But Griffin was unable to throw down one last jam late in the fourth quarter after Davis tossed up an alley-oop attempt to his teammate.

Rising for a two-hander, Griffin instead clanked the ball off the back of the rim.

Of course, he had other moments. Griffin scored on a 360 spin-move under the basket as the Clippers built a big first-half lead, extending their 24-23 edge after the opening quarter to a 57-42 lead heading into the locker room.

LA took a 25-point lead at 5:13 of the third quarter when Foye hit a three to make it 76-51. Foye's 21 points were a season-high as he made another start for the injured Eric Gordon.

"I put a lot of pressure on myself, so I tried to make plays," Foye said. "Tonight we put it all together."

Silas said his team was "a little tired" following its overtime loss Friday in Golden State. It might have been one reason LA had a season-low seven turnovers.

"A good team win," said Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro. "I liked the way we moved the ball."

The Clippers will also welcome Milwaukee and Chicago on their brief homestand...LA shot 43 percent from the field, while the Bobcats shot 40 percent.
