Woeful Wizards still shooting for first road win in Big D

Jan 31, 2011 - 4:13 PM (Sports Network) - The Washington Wizards will again try for their first road win of the season tonight as they resume a four-game western trek against the Dallas Mavericks.

The Wizards are a league-worst 0-23 on the road in 2010-11 and have dropped 24 straight contests away from home dating back to last season. The NBA mark for most road defeats to start a season belongs to the Mavs, who lost 29 straight to open the 1992-93 campaign. Washington's last win as the guest was a 106-96 triumph in Boston back on April 9, 2010. Only the '92-93 Dallas team and the 1974-75 New Orleans Jazz (28) have started seasons with more consecutive road setbacks.

Washington will finish its current trek against the Hornets on Tuesday and has lost four straight overall and six of seven contests, including Saturday's 107-93 setback in Memphis. The Grizzlies' Zach Randolph extended his franchise record with his 14th straight double-double, posting 24 points and 20 rebounds in that one.

Rookie John Wall had 14 points and eight assists for the Wizards while Trevor Booker had 12 points and 12 boards.

"We don't want to be a losing team, but we're coming out fighting," Wall said. "If we play hard every night and don't turn the ball over we're going to see ourselves in a lot of close games."

Center JaVale McGee, the Wizards leading rebounder, remained out with the flu in Memphis and is questionable for tonight.

Dallas, meanwhile, improved to 3-0 of a four-game homestand Saturday after Dirk Nowitzki scored 19 points to lead seven Mavericks players in double figures, as Dallas ran its overall winning streak to four games with a 102-91 victory over Atlanta.

Jason Terry added 18 points and 11 assists off the bench while Tyson Chandler and Jason Kidd both scored 12.

"It's been fun to watch," Nowitzki said of his team's well-rounded scoring effort. "In the second half, we did get stops."

Mavs center Brandon Haywood and swingman DeShawn Stevenson will be meeting the Wizards tonight for the first time since they were traded to Dallas last February in a deal that brought Josh Howard to nation's capital. Howard is sidelined for Washington, however, with a sore left knee.

Dallas has won three of their past four meeting with the Wizards.
