Clippers use balanced attack to take down Knicks

Feb 10, 2011 - 5:22 AM New York, NY (Sports Network) - Baron Davis scored 16 points and dished out a season-high 16 assists, as the Los Angeles Clippers used a balanced attack to take down the New York Knicks, 116-108, at Madison Square Garden.

Randy Foye added 24 points for the Clippers, who snapped a four-game skid. Blake Griffin tallied 21 points and six rebounds.

Ryan Gomes and DeAndre Jordan chipped in with 18 and 17 points, respectively, for Los Angeles, which improved to 1-3 on its season-long 11-game road trip. Jordan also pulled down eight rebounds.

"It was huge for us," Griffin said. "Foye absolutely took over the last four minutes."

Amare Stoudemire finished with 23 points and five boards for the Knicks, who have dropped three of four. Danilo Gallinari donated 21 points and five rebounds for New York, which got 18 points and six boards from Timofey Mozgov.

The Knicks scored the final seven points of the first quarter to take a 29-28 lead.

Trailing by three, 35-32, with eight minutes left until half, the Clippers put together a 16-2 run to go in front. Gomes tallied eight points during the stretch, including a three-pointer with four minutes remaining to make it 48-37.

A Davis layup gave Los Angeles a 56-41 margin with 1:15 left. It was 58-47 at the break.

A tight third stanza resulted in the Clippers taking an 88-78 lead into the fourth.

New York ripped off seven straight points midway through the fourth to cut the gap to 99-96 on Stoudemire's slam with 5:41 to play.

After each team traded baskets, Foye made a three-pointer to make it 104-98 with 3:47 left. Just moments later, Foye sparked an 8-0 burst with a three- pointer. Jordan capped the surge with an alley-oop dunk to extend Los Angeles' margin to 114-102 with 1:03 to go.

"We just did not come out to play in the first half. You can see it on their faces," Knicks head coach Mike D'Antoni said. "The energy level mostly on the defensive end and that translates on the offensive end. We started up the energy at halftime, gathered a little bit and started playing hard. From that point, everything has to go right for you and it didn't...down 20 and then we made the great comeback."
