Aldridge, Blazers pay a visit to Pistons

Feb 13, 2011 - 3:47 PM (Sports Network) - The resilient Portland Trail Blazers hit the hardwood for the middle contest of a three-game road trip Sunday when they face off with the Detroit Pistons at The Palace.

Despite continuing to play without star swingman Brandon Roy and top rebounder Marcus Camby the Blazers won the opener of the trip in Toronto on Friday when LaMarcus Aldridge scored 25 of his 37 points in the second half as Portland pushed its winning streak to three games with a 102-96 victory over the Raptors.

Rudy Fernandez scored all of his 23 points in the first half to stake the Blazers to an early lead and they held on down the stretch for their sixth straight win against Toronto.

"I just kept shooting," Fernandez said. "The most important thing for us is this win in Toronto, which is a difficult place to play in. This is a team effort. The team did a great job getting me the ball."

Overlooked for next week's All-Star game, Aldridge has scored at least 37 points in three of his last six games and helped the Blazers remain in the eighth spot in the Western Conference standings despite the absences of Roy and Camby, who both have knee injuries and have missed the last 27 and 11 games respectively.

Roy and Camby are both getting closer to a return and practiced on Wednesday but neither is expected back for tonight's contest.

Portland, which is 11-17 on the road this season, will finish its trip in Minnesota on Monday.

The Pistons, meanwhile, opened a five-game homestand in losing fashion on Friday when Dwyane Wade finished with a game-high 24 points to go along with eight rebounds and seven assists as the Heat had a stellar first half and held on down the stretch, topping Detroit 106-92.

Austin Daye paced the Pistons with 18 points. Ben Gordon added 16 points and seven rebounds while Tayshaun Prince scored 11 for Detroit, which lost for the second time in three games.

"We allowed them to fuel their fast break tonight," Pistons coach John Kuester said. "That really sucked the wind out of us."

The Blazers have won five straight over Detroit.
