Randolph powers Grizzlies to rout of Kings
Feb 27, 2011 - 7:02 AM Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Zach Randolph scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead a balanced attack in Memphis' 120-92 win over Sacramento.Marc Gasol notched 21 points, Darrell Arthur 17 and O.J. Mayo had 13 for Memphis, which has won four in a row at home. Hamed Haddadi had 10 points and 10 boards while Shane Battier scored just two points and had three assists in his first game with the Grizzlies since they acquired him from Houston. Memphis has won six of its last seven overall.
"I was excited to come back to a familiar place," Battier said. "But your world gets turned upside down. I have a pregnant wife at home and you worry about her and you worry about the life issues, but from a basketball standpoint I was pretty pumped."
Beno Udrih had 24 points for the Kings, who closed out a seven-game road trip with a disappointing 2-5 record. Marcus Thornton and DeMarcus Cousins had 15 and 14 points, respectively, in the loss.
"We're tired, we're banged up, we're struggling," Kings coach Paul Westphal said.
The Kings got off to a good start thanks to Udrih's 14 first quarter points and they held to a 28-23 lead.
However, Memphis staked its comeback in the second quarter. After Omri Casspi hit a runner to start the second, the Grizzlies scored the next six points to make it one-point contest, 30-29.
The slim lead was still in favor of Sacramento until Haddadi's layin gave Memphis a 39-38 edge with just under six minutes left to play in the first half.
Knotted at 48, Memphis went on a 8-1 run finished off by Jason Williams' long pullup jumper with 11.2 seconds left. Thornton added a free throw during the final seconds, making up for the Grizzlies' 56-49 halftime advantage.
Memphis took control with a 12-2 run approaching the midway point of the third quarter. Randolph's running jumper capped the burst making it 72-57. The lead reached 23 at the end of the third thanks to a six-point flurry where Mayo's jam made it a 89-66 game heading into the fourth quarter.
The Grizzlies' lead never dipped below 23 in the final quarter.
