76ers make a stop in Cleveland

Feb 27, 2011 - 4:10 PM (Sports Network) - The surging Philadelphia 76ers aim for their fourth straight win this evening against the Cleveland Cavaliers from Quicken Loans Arena.

The Sixers have won three in a row and 12 of their last 16 games, including Friday's 110-94 victory over a shorthanded Detroit Pistons squad. Andre Iguodala finished three rebounds shy of a triple-double with 21 points, 11 assists and seven boards, while Elton Brand contributed 20 points and matched a season-high with 17 rebounds for the 76ers, who have gone 26-16 after starting the season 3-13.

"Our guys feel good about themselves," said Sixers first-year head coach Doug Collins. "We are a growing team that is getting a little swagger."

Thaddeus Young netted 24 points off the bench to help Philly reach the .500 mark for the first time this season. Jrue Holiday had 12 points and handed out 10 assists in a winning effort.

After visiting Cleveland, the Sixers, who are only 10-20 away from south Philly this season, will return home to face Dallas, Minnesota and Golden State. The 76ers are much better at home as evidenced by their 19-9 record, and sit seventh in the Eastern Conference standings -- just a game behind New York for the sixth seed.

Meanwhile, the Cavaliers will resume an eight-game homestand tonight and improved to 3-3 on the residency with Friday's hard-fought 115-109 victory over Carmelo Anthony and the visiting Knicks. Anthony had 27 points in his second game with New York before fouling out.

Antawn Jamison collected 28 points and 13 rebounds, J.J. Hickson ended with 24 points and 15 boards and Ramon Sessions added 22 points for Cleveland, which has alternated wins and losses over its last six games and will wrap up the residency Wednesday versus San Antonio.

"I don't know what it is about playing New York," said Cavs head coach Byron Scott, "but I like what I saw tonight."

The Cavs have won 10 in a row against the Knicks and eight straight matchups in this series at The Q. They are hoping new point guard Baron Davis will be able to make his debut on Sunday. Davis was acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers for Mo Williams and Jamario Moon, but is still bothered by a sore right knee. He is listed as questionable for today's game.

Cleveland is 8-20 in the Forest City this season.

The Sixers ended a five-game losing streak to the Cavs with a 117-97 win on Dec. 7 this season at Wells Fargo Center. Cleveland is still 14-4 in the previous 18 encounters with Philadelphia, losers in two straight and six of nine visits to the Cavaliers.
