Nets and Raptors finish historic London series

Mar 5, 2011 - 4:00 PM (Sports Network) - The New Jersey Nets and Toronto Raptors will finish up a historic two-game set in London's O2 Arena on Saturday.

Brook Lopez scored 25 points and Kris Humphries posted a double-double on Friday, as the Nets opened the series with a 116-103 victory in the first regular season NBA contest ever held in Europe.

Humphries ended with 18 points and 17 rebounds for New Jersey, which snapped a six-game losing streak. Deron Williams contributed 16 points and 11 assists en route to his first win in a New Jersey uniform. The club acquired the point guard from Utah last week.

"Happy with my first win as a Net," Williams said. "I thought we had a lot of energy today. I think we were all a little worried about how the trip would affect us, fatigue would set in, but we had a lot of energy."

DeMar DeRozan finished with 30 points and Andrea Bargnani had 23 for the Raptors, who had beaten the Nets six straight times and were coming off Tuesday's win against New Orleans. Jose Calderon dished out 12 assists and rookie Ed Davis netted 12 points in the contest.

"The excitement level was high. Sold out crowd," said DeRozan. "I think everybody was excited to see both teams play, and it was definitely fun playing out there."

On the injury front, New Jersey guard Anthony Morrow left Friday's game after hitting his head and is expected to miss Saturday's contest.

Although this weekend's games are the first regular season contests in England this is the sixth consecutive year that the league has made a trip to Europe. London itself has hosted eight games featuring 10 NBA teams since 1993 as part of preseason friendlies.

Overall, the NBA has played 54 games featuring 24 teams in 18 European cities over the last two decades. The O2 has hosted four NBA exhibition games since 2007.

This is the Raptors' first visit to the United Kingdom, while the Nets visited London in 2008, playing the Miami Heat as part of NBA Europe Live. The Raptors last traveled abroad for NBA Europe Live 2007, where they held training camp in Treviso, Italy, followed by preseason games in Rome and Madrid.
