Hornets continue residency with Kings in town

Mar 12, 2011 - 4:06 PM (Sports Network) - The New Orleans Hornets will resume a five-game stay in the Big Easy tonight versus the road-weary Sacramento Kings.

The Hornets opened the residency with Wednesday's impressive 93-92 win over the Dallas Mavericks, as Jarrett Jack made three foul shots with 8.4 seconds to go in the game to seal the win and ended with 21 points. Jack was filling in for injured All-Star guard Chris Paul, who missed his second consecutive game since suffering a concussion against Cleveland on Sunday.

David West posted 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Carl Landry provided 15 points for New Orleans, winners in three of their last four games.

"We're a blue-collar ball club," Jack said. "That's what coach preaches. Every day since I've been here, we take on his personality. We've got guys banged up. We had a tremendous effort by everybody. I cannot take all of the credit, even though I hit three big free throws. That's what this team is about."

New Orleans rallied from a 92-85 deficit with 51 seconds to go for the franchise's first win in a game in which it trailed by at least seven points with less than a minute to go in the final stanza since 2002. The Hornets will also host Denver, Phoenix and Boston, and are 22-9 at home this season. They are just percentage points behind Portland for the sixth spot in the Western Conference standings.

Paul is listed as questionable for tonight's game. Jack is averaging 19.2 ppg in his previous six contests and has scored in double figures in 12 of the past 13 games.

Sacramento has lost five in a row overall and four straight on the road. It dropped a 108-103 decision at San Antonio on Friday, as Jermaine Taylor and Omri Casspi each had 16 points off the bench in a losing effort.

"We took it right down to the wire," Kings coach Paul Westphal said. "I was very proud of our effort. I thought we played the pick-and-roll as well as we've played it all year. It's hard to stop them, because they're the best in the league at it."

Rookie sensation DeMarcus Cousins had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Kings, who are 7-23 away from California's capital. Cousins is averaging 21.0 points and 11.6 rebounds in the last five games and has recorded double-doubles in four of five contests.

Sacramento continues to toil without reigning Rookie of the Year Tyreke Evans, who has missed the past 12 games with a case of plantar fasciitis in his left foot. The Kings are 3-14 this season without Evans in the lineup. Guard Beno Udrih missed the Spurs game with flu-like symptoms and is questionable.

New Orleans has won two of three meetings with the Kings this season and is 10-5 in the last 15 matchups in the series. Sacramento has lost four straight and 10 of 11 trips to the Big Easy.
