Knicks and Pacers finish home-and-home set in Indy
Mar 15, 2011 - 2:54 PM (Sports Network) - The New York Knicks will try to salvage the back end of a home-and-home set with the Indiana Pacers at Conseco Fieldhouse Tuesday. The Pacers took the front end in Madison Square Garden on Sunday when Tyler Hansbrough scored a career-high 29 points with eight rebounds as Indiana got back in the win column with a 106-93 victory over the Knicks.
Dahntay Jones had 18 points while Darren Collison notched 16 points and eight assists for the Pacers, who halted an ugly six-game slide despite the absence of leading scorer Danny Granger, who was out with flu-like symptoms. Roy Hibbert chipped in 12 points and eight boards in the win.
"They're a playoff team, so it's good to get that win against a quality opponent and hopefully we can come back on Tuesday and have the same energy," said Hansbrough.
Amare Stoudemire provided 28 points and six boards as the Knicks fell for the second time in three days. Carmelo Anthony added 25 points in the loss and New York shot just 36.6 percent from the field.
Chauncey Billups returned to the lineup after missing six games with a bruised left thigh, but was just 4-of-14 from the field and finished with nine points.
"It was a little stagnant out there offensively," said Stoudemire. "We didn't quite get into a great rhythm and defensively we didn't play with the energy we needed. As a result, we lost."
The Knicks currently hold the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference playoff hunt, one game ahead of Philadelphia, and are now 6-5 since making the blockbuster trade for Anthony and Billups. Indiana, meanwhile, is deadlocked with Charlotte for the eighth and final spot with 16 games left in the regular season.
Granger remains questionable for tonight's game for the Pacers, who have won two of their past three games with New York.
