Clippers entertain Cavs in Hollywood

Mar 19, 2011 - 2:41 PM (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Clippers will resume a four-game homestand tonight versus the Cleveland Cavaliers at Staples Center.

The residency didn't begin on a positive note, as the Philadelphia 76ers escaped Hollywood with a 104-94 victory on Wednesday. Randy Foye led the Clippers with 20 points and DeAndre Jordan totaled 16 points and 15 rebounds for LA, which has dropped two straight and three of four games since a four- game winning streak.

Mo Williams tallied 15 points and dished out eight assists, while Blake Griffin was held to 14 points and eight boards.

"We were flat. Our starters didn't give us a good start," Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro said. "Our energy wasn't good. Everything was difficult for us."

Los Angeles will also welcome Phoenix and Washington to town and is 18-16 as the host this season. Foye is averaging 16.1 points in the 24 games he has started this season, while Griffin is the first rookie in the NBA to average at least 20 points and 10 rebounds since Elton Brand registered 20.1 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest in 1999-00 with Chicago.

Griffin, however, is only posting 11.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in his previous two games. He failed to post a double-double for the fifth consecutive time in the loss to the Sixers. So far it's the longest double- double drought of his career. He is second in the NBA with 54 double-doubles and still one double-double away of matching Brand's Los Angeles record of 55 established during the 2001-02 season. Bob McAdoo holds the franchise record with 69 double-doubles set in 1974-75, when the franchise was formerly known as the Buffalo Braves.

Williams is averaging 16.9 points, 5.8 assists and 2.3 rebounds in nine games with LA since coming over via trade from Cleveland.

The Cavaliers will try to put an embarrassing 111-70 loss in Portland behind them when they close out a three-game road trip tonight in LA.

In Thursday's loss at the Rose Garden, Ramon Sessions led the way with 14 points and Daniel Gibson finished with 12 off the bench for Cleveland, which failed to build off a win at Sacramento and lost for the fifth time in six tries. The Cavs shot 35.6 percent, were outrebounded by a 45-29 difference and committed 18 turnovers for 28 Portland points.

"It was an old-fashioned butt-whooping," said Cavs head coach Byron Scott.

Baron Davis returned from a three-game absence for personal reasons and had three points in 14 1/2 minutes of action. He is now questionable for tonight's game because of back spasms.

After tonight's game, the Cavaliers, who are only 5-29 on the road, will return to the Forest City for a five-game homestand versus Orlando, New Jersey, Detroit, Atlanta and Miami.

The Cavs snapped an NBA-worst 26-game losing streak against the Clippers on Feb. 11 with a 126-119 overtime triumph at Quicken Loans Arena. Williams returned to the court for the first time since January 15, posting 17 points and 14 assists to lead the charge.

Cleveland has won nine straight and 11 of the last 12 meetings with LA, which has lost four straight as the host in this series. Much of the success had to do with the presence of LeBron James, who's now playing with Miami.
