Streaking Bulls seek 14th straight home win; face Grizzlies
Mar 25, 2011 - 3:22 PM (Sports Network) - The top-seeded Chicago Bulls aim for their 14th consecutive win at home tonight, when they host the Memphis Grizzlies at the United Center. The Bulls have won 13 straight in the Windy City and haven't tasted defeat at home since Jan. 18 versus Charlotte. They are 31-4 as the host and own a one- game lead over Boston for conference bragging rights.
Chicago has won 10 of its last 11 games overall and handed the Atlanta Hawks a 114-81 setback in the Peach State on Tuesday. MVP candidate Derrick Rose scored 30 points and buried a career-best six three-pointers. Rose also handed out 10 assists and Luol Deng contributed 27 points for the Central Division champions.
"I thought we came out ready to play, we had good balance," Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau said. "Derrick was very aggressive, Luol was very aggressive, great leadership from those guys."
Thibodeau's squad shot 54.4 percent for the game and had a 40-26 advantage on the boards.
Memphis is currently eighth in the Western Conference -- one game behind New Orleans and two games ahead of Houston. It has won three straight and four of five games, and is coming off Wednesday's 90-87 victory in Boston.
Zach Randolph finished with 13 points and eight rebounds, former Celtic Leon Powe scored 13 points off the bench and O.J. Mayo, Sam Young and Marc Gasol each netted 11 points for the Grizzlies.
"This was a team win," Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins said. "I just told the guys I said, 'Our bench actually won the game because they went and they were positive both times.'"
The Grizzlies are 15-22 outside of FedEx Forum this season. Randolph needs 11 rebounds for 6,000 in his career.
Chicago defeated Memphis, 96-84, on Jan. 17 in the Volunteer State. The Grizzlies have lost 12 of the 15 meetings in the Second City.
