Playoff-hopeful Grizzlies host hapless Wolves

Apr 2, 2011 - 2:40 PM (Sports Network) - The Memphis Grizzlies hope to inch closer to their first postseason berth in five seasons tonight when they open up a four-game homestand by hosting the lowly Minnesota Timberwolves in the shadow of Beale Street.

The Grizz have won three straight after Friday's 93-81 win in New Orleans and now lead Houston by three games for the final postseason berth in the Western Conference with just six games to play.

Zach Randolph posted 28 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in the Big Easy as Memphis also pulled even with the Hornets for seventh place in the West and moved within a game of Portland for the sixth spot.

Tony Allen netted 17 points, while O.J. Mayo and Marc Gasol chipped in 13 points apiece for the Grizzlies.

"We were ready for them today," Allen said. "I just like how we closed it out and played it hard for 48 minutes."

Memphis, which has won five straight at home and is an impressive 27-10 at FedEx Forum, will also face the LA Clippers, Sacramento and the Hornets on its final residency of the regular season.

Minnesota, meanwhile, is on the verge of its second straight 60-loss season and third in four years after dropping its season-high ninth straight contest on Friday in the Twin Cities to Miami. Dwyane Wade scored half of his 32 points in the pivotal third quarter in that one as the Heat moved closer to the Southeast Division title with a 111-92 win over the stumbling Timberwolves.

Martell Webster scored 22 points off the bench, while Kevin Love posted 18 points and seven boards to make up his third straight game without a double- double for the Wolves.

"It's a tough stretch," Timberwolves forward Anthony Tolliver said. "We showed signs that were able to compete. It's something we can build upon."

Memphis has won six of its last seven versus Minnesota, including all three meetings this season.
