Knicks try to solve Cavs in MSG

Apr 3, 2011 - 2:54 PM (Sports Network) - If the New York Knicks hope to climb closer to a postseason berth on Sunday they will have to do it at the expense of an unlikely antagonist, the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Cavs are an NBA-worst 15-60 on the season but three of those wins have come against the Knicks, two of which came after New York made the blockbuster trade to acquire Carmelo Anthony.

The Knicks have won consecutive games, however, on the heels of a six-game slide after Wednesday's 120-116 win over New Jersey at Madison Square Garden. Anthony finished with 39 points for the second straight game in that one.

"It was a must-win situation ... so it's a perfect time for me to get in a groove," said Anthony, who also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.

Chauncey Billups posted 33 points, six assists and six rebounds for New York, while Amare Stoudemire added 23 points despite dealing with foul trouble for most of the game.

The Knicks are three games ahead of the Indiana Pacers for the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference and two games back of Philadelphia for the No. 6 seed. New York's magic number to clinch a postseason slot for the first time in seven seasons is two and the Knicks could secure things Sunday with a victory and a loss by Charlotte to Washington.

The Cavs, meanwhile, dropped their second in a row on Friday when rookie Jordan Crawford recorded his first career triple-double, and Andray Blatche finished with 36 points and 19 rebounds, leading the Washington Wizards to a 115-107 victory over Cleveland in the nation's capital.

Ramon Sessions netted 26 points to lead the Cavaliers, who have dropped the two in a row since beating Miami on Tuesday. J.J. Hickson had 21 points and 10 boards in the loss.

"Guys like Blatche got so many offensive rebounds because I wasn't being physical," Hickson said. "I'll be the first to say, I think it's the reason we lost tonight, but I guarantee you it won't happen again."

Cleveland has won 11 straight overall versus the Knicks but most of that damage was done when superstar LeBron James still called the Forest City home.
