Nets entertain hapless Wolves at The Rock
Apr 5, 2011 - 2:56 PM (Sports Network) - The lowly Minnesota Timberwolves hope to put the brakes on a lengthy 10-game slide tonight, when they invade Newark, NJ to take on the Nets at the Prudential Center.Minnesota has dropped 10 straight overall and eight in a row on the road, and is coming off Saturday's 106-89 setback at Memphis in which Michael Beasley led the charge with 20 points. Luke Ridnour added 17 points and Nikola Pekovic scored 14 for the Wolves, who haven't won since March 11 versus Utah and last tasted victory as the guest on March 2 against Detroit.
Kevin Love did not play due to a strained groin and has missed four of his last six contests. He is averaging 20.2 points and 15.2 boards this season, and is expected to miss another game tonight.
"Being shorthanded, I thought we did a lot of really good things out there," reasoned Timberwolves head coach Kurt Rambis.
The Wolves are just 5-33 away from the Twin Cities this season.
New Jersey is mired in a six-game losing streak and dropped a 108-94 decision versus Miami on Sunday.
Deron Williams had 18 points and 12 assists, while Travis Outlaw and Brook Lopez scored 17 and 16 points, respectively, for the Nets, who are only 1-10 in their previous 11 contests.
"We definitely had some makeable shots, but I thought they were rushed and quick," Williams said. "They got out in transition, and they got layup after layup. They're tough to beat when they're doing that."
The Nets are 18-20 as the host this season and are not expecting forward Kris Humphries to be in action Tuesday because of an ankle/heel ailment. He has missed consecutive games and is averaging 10.0 points and 10.4 boards.
Minnesota recorded a 103-88 victory over New Jersey on New Year's Day at the Target Center behind Love's 23 points and 10 rebounds. The Timberwolves have won four in a row and 10 of the past 14 meetings with the Nets, who own an 8-2 mark in the past 10 meetings at home in this series.
