Spurs target win No. 60 vs. Kings

Apr 6, 2011 - 3:16 PM (Sports Network) - Order has been restored in the Alamo City.

After an uncharacteristic six-game losing streak, their longest since drafting Tim Duncan with the No. 1 overall pick in 1997, the Spurs have rebounded to win two straight and secure the Southwest Division crown.

Now, San Antonio will try to lock down its fourth 60-win season in franchise history and inch closer to securing the top seed in the Western Conference when it shoots for a 12th straight win over the lowly Sacramento Kings tonight.

Manu Ginobili scored 12 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter on Tuesday as the Spurs topped the Atlanta Hawks, 97-90, at Philips Arena. Tony Parker finished with a game-high 26 points and Duncan posted 17 points and six rebounds for the Spurs, who lead the Lakers by 3 1/2 games for the top spot in the West.

"I thought our guys were really good, we changed up a few things and they executed well," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "I think we kept (the Hawks) off stride because we changed it up several times."

San Antonio last won 60 games in the 2005-06 season.

Sacramento, meanwhile, is out of the postseason picture for the fifth straight campaign although it has been more competitive down the stretch. Last night the Kings played spoiler in Houston when Samuel Dalembert finished with 21 points and 15 rebounds as Sacramento held on to deliver a big blow to the playoff-hopeful Rockets, 104-101.

Marcus Thornton scored 21 points and DeMarcus Cousins posted 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Kings, who have won consecutive games and avoided a season sweep to Houston. Tyreke Evans posted 18 points for the victors.

"Defense was the key. We did a good job after they made a run of not losing our poise," Cousins said. "We are playing together and trusting one another. We are playing to win. Marcus came in during the season and has become a big part of our team. We have five options that we can go to at any point."

The Kings have not beaten the Spurs anywhere since a 112-99 home victory Nov. 26, 2007. Sacramento has lost eight straight and 12 of 13 games in the Alamo City.
