Lowly Bobcats meet Blazers in Rip City
Feb 1, 2012 - 3:42 PM (Sports Network) - The hapless Charlotte Bobcats will try to avoid a 10th straight loss tonight when they resume a four-game road trip against the Portland Trail Blazers in Rip City.Halting the skid tonight, however, figures to be exceedingly difficult since Portland is a gaudy 9-1 this season at the Rose Garden.
The road has been a much different story for the Blazers, however. Portland fell to 3-8 as the visitor in Salt Lake City on Monday, losing a tough one to the Utah Jazz, 93-89.
LaMarcus Aldridge scored a game-high 25 points in that one, but netted just two in the fourth quarter. Nicolas Batum had 15 points but limped off the court after turning the ball over in the final minute while Jamal Crawford finished with 14 points in defeat.
"We simply got outworked," Blazers head coach Nate McMillan said. "That team wanted it more than we did. It showed in their play."
An MRI on Batum Tuesday showed no serious damage but the Frenchman is scheduled to miss the next two games and be evaluated from there.
The Bobcats, meanwhile, were routed in the opener of their trip in LA on Tuesday, losing 106-73 to the Lakers. Gerald Henderson paced Charlotte, owners of the NBA's worst record at 3-19, with 14 points. Rookie Kemba Walker and Derrick Brown both scored 12.
"We just couldn't make shots," said Bobcats coach Paul Silas. "You do that against a team like that and you're in trouble."
Charlotte, which has also lost nine straight on the road and is a dismal 1-11 as the visitor overall, will also meet Phoenix and Boston before returning to the Queen City. The Bobcats haven't lost 10 in a row on the road during one season since an 11-game hiccup from Nov. 7, 2007-Jan. 4, 2008.
Silas' club has lost three straight in Portland but did stop a four-game skid in the series with a win in Charlotte last season.
