Pacers take winning ways to Memphis
Mar 22, 2014 - 1:56 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Indiana Pacers seem to be back in control after a brief hiccup and will visit the Memphis Grizzlies Saturday night. The Pacers have won five of their last six games and took down the rival Chicago Bulls 91-79 Friday night. All five Indiana starters scored 10-plus points, while reserve Luis Scola netted a team-best 19 off the bench.
Lance Stephenson had 15 points, Roy Hibbert added 12 and 11 rebounds and Paul George finished with a triple-double of 10 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists for the Pacers, who held the Bulls to 36 percent shooting and had a 51-36 advantage on the glass.
"We really got back to playing some defense," said George. "I thought we did a great job of boxing out, not allowing second chance baskets."
Indiana is first in opponents' scoring at 92.0 ppg and teams are shooting an NBA-low 41.6 percent against the Pacers.
The Pacers are three games ahead of Miami for the East's top seed and will visit Chicago on Monday. They have a 19-14 road record.
Memphis is coming off a tough 91-86 loss to the Miami Heat Friday night. Miami rallied from a double-digit deficit in the second half and ended the game on a 14-2 run.
Zach Randolph posted a double-double of 25 points and 14 rebounds and Marc Gasol added 14 points before exiting with an ankle injury. The Heat took over when Gasol went down and scored 23 points on 17 Memphis turnovers. Gasol is listed as questionable Saturday.
Courtney Lee and Mike Conley each had 12 points in the loss, just the Grizzlies' third in the last 11 games.
"Overall we played good we just couldn't make shots toward the end," Randolph remarked. "It was a couple plays that determined the game."
The Grizzlies will try to extend their home winning streak to nine games and have a 21-14 record at FedExForum. They are currently eighth in the West -- one game behind Dallas and a half-game in front of Phoenix.
Memphis will also host Minnesota on Monday.
Indiana defeated the Grizzlies 95-79 on Nov. 11 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse and is unbeaten in the last three games in this series. Indiana snapped a four- game skid at FedExForum last Jan. 21.
