Lakers jump it up with Kings

Apr 2, 2014 - 2:25 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Two of the worst teams in the Western Conference do battle Wednesday night when the Los Angeles Lakers visit Sleep Train Arena to take on the Sacramento Kings.

The Lakers have lost three of the last four and five straight as the visitor. Not that standings mean much to these two lottery-bound teams, but the Lakers trail the Kings by a game for last place in the Pacific Division.

Los Angeles dropped its last outing, a 124-112 home setback Tuesday night to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Nick Young dropped a season-high 40 points in a reserve role for the Lakers, whose bench outscored Portland's 62-23. Young also set a career-high with 15 field goals made, including a stretch of eight straight.

"I didn't know I made my first eight shots," Young said. "I just got into a zone. I got into a rhythm kind of fast."

Kent Bazemore tallied 17 points, Chris Kaman added 12 and Steve Nash netted 10 points with 10 assists in 22 minutes of action off the bench in the setback.

Pau Gasol returned from a four-game absence due to symptoms of vertigo and scored nine points in almost 29 minutes.

The Kings closed out a three-game road trip with a 102-97 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday.

DeMarcus Cousins led the way for Sacramento by tallying 35 points and 14 rebounds.

Ray McCallum had a career-high 22 points and 10 assists for the Kings, who snapped a three-game skid. Rudy Gay and Ben McLemore contributed 22 and 14 points, respectively.

"I have a great opportunity to go out there and play, and I'm trying to make the most of it," McCallum said.

Starting point guard Isaiah Thomas missed his fourth consecutive game with a quad injury. He is listed as questionable for Wednesday's contest with the Lakers.

Sacramento forward Reggie Evans is $15,000 lighter in the checking account after a league fine. Evans elbowed Anthony Davis of the Pelicans in the face Monday night.

The Lakers have won the first three meetings this season with Sacramento and have taken five in a row over their Pacific Division rivals. LA has won two straight and seven of its last 10 in Sacramento.
