Jazz visit Denver to take on Nuggets
Apr 12, 2014 - 2:30 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Utah Jazz will try to salvage some games at the end of the season, starting Saturday night when they visit the Pepsi Center to face the Denver Nuggets.Utah has dropped three in a row, eight of nine, 14 of 16 and 19 of 22. They've also lost six straight as the visitor.
On Friday, the Jazz fell in Salt Lake City to the Portland Trail Blazers, 111-99.
Derrick Favors scored 21 and had eight rebounds and Alec Burks scored 16 and grabbed six boards for the Jazz. Enes Kanter totaled 15 points and 13 rebounds and Trey Burke and Gordon Hayward scored 14 points apiece in defeat.
"I think, overall, their whole team did a good job continuing to execute," said Burke. "We made some mental errors that we couldn't afford to make."
The Jazz shot 46 percent from the field and from beyond the 3-point arc, but committed 13 turnovers, which led to 18 Trail Blazers points.
Utah will finish the season at home Monday against the Los Angeles Lakers, then on the road against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday.
The Nuggets have won two in a row and two straight at home.
On Thursday, Denver outlasted the Golden State Warriors at Oracle Arena, 100-99.
Timofey Mozgov had the game of his life, but it was his frontcourt mate Kenneth Faried that won it for Denver.
Mozgov scored 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting and grabbed 29 rebounds, shattering his previous career high of 20, while Faried's turn-around jumper with less than a second remaining lifted the Nuggets to victory.
Denver led by a point late when Stephen Curry split a double-team and exploded past two defenders before absorbing contact from Faried and getting a floater to go to give the Warriors a 99-98 lead with 5.8 seconds to play.
Denver inbounded to Faried at the elbow out of its timeout and let him go to work. Faried muscled his way to the block and converted with 0.5 seconds showing. Curry's 30-foot heave fell just short as the buzzer sounded.
"I was able to just spin off (the defender) and I saw a clear opening for the shot that I wanted," Faried said of the go-ahead bucket.
Faried finished with 18 points and 17 boards and Randy Foye scored 20 with seven rebounds and seven assists.
The Jazz won two of three this season against the Nuggets, including one in Denver. Utah has dropped eight of its last 11 in the Mile High City.
