Kings eye 6th straight win in Oklahoma City

Nov 9, 2014 - 2:45 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Sacramento Kings are off to a surprising start and shoot for a sixth straight win Sunday against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Kings lost their first game of the season versus Golden State, but have ripped off five straight wins, including Friday's 114-112 double-overtime triumph at Phoenix in the opener of a four-game road trip.

DeMarcus Cousins had 25 points and 18 rebounds, then fouled out late in regulation and missed the extra periods. Darren Collison and Ben McLemore scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, for the Kings, who made 42.9 percent of their shots and got 12 points off the bench from Carl Landry.

"They made runs, we made runs," said Kings forward Rudy Gay, who rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points. "We had to finish out like we do. We're starting to get that mentality about us now."

Sacramento, which was 1-5 after six games a season ago, used a 15-3 run in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 94-94, but couldn't finish off the Suns in regulation. The Kings had a 60-42 advantage in rebounds.

Phoenix's largest deficit was only two points and had a 12-point lead in the fourth quarter before the Kings made a run. Former King Isaiah Thomas had a three-point attempt at the buzzer fall short to force overtime.

Sacramento went ahead for good on a Gay basket with 1:07 to play in the second overtime.

The Kings are 3-0 on the road for the first time since 1995-96 and have never won their first four road games. They are 5-1 for the first time since starting 9-1 in the 1999-2000 season and haven't won six in a row overall since a seven-game run from Nov. 13-26, 2004.

Sacramento is in a stretch of playing six of seven on the road, and will visit Dallas and Memphis on this current trek.

Oklahoma City is only 1-5 this season and has lost three in a row. The Thunder are playing without Kevin Durant (foot) and Russell Westbrook (hand), and dropped a 91-89 decision to the Grizzlies Friday night.

Reggie Jackson finished with 22 points, eight assists and seven rebounds, while Jeremy Lamb added 17 points in his first NBA start and Serge Ibaka ended with 16 and seven rebounds. Steven Adams chipped in 13 points and 11 boards for the Thunder, who erased a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter and came up empty.

"I really don't think there is a team out there better than us," Jackson said. "I don't care who we have. I thought we would be on the other side of this one tonight."

The depleted Thunder had 20 turnovers and could be without three more players Sunday. Guards Anthony Morrow (knee) and Andre Roberson (foot) and forward Perry Jones (knee) are questionable Sunday. Morrow is in his first season with OKC and has yet to play. Jones is averaging 15.6 ppg.

Oklahoma City swept the 2013-14 series with Sacramento, 4-0, and has won 10 straight and 16 of the last 17 matchups between the Western foes.

Sacramento has lost all 11 meetings in Oklahoma City.
