Mavs, Wolves put lopsided finishes behind them in Big D

Nov 15, 2014 - 3:27 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Dallas Mavericks are coming off a huge victory and will try to keep the momentum going Saturday night when the Minnesota Timberwolves come to American Airlines Center.

The Mavs set several team records on Thursday thanks to a 123-70 humiliation of the Philadelphia 76ers at home.

It was the biggest margin of victory in Dallas history, surpassing the 50- point win in New York on Jan. 24, 2010. The Mavs led 38-10 after the first quarter and 73-29 at the half, and both of those were franchise records.

"The sum total of the whole thing was our guys played hard, they played together, they concentrated, they didn't have any slippage tonight and we got the job done," Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said. "The score is very lopsided, but you've got to get the win and move on to the next one."

Dirk Nowitzki needed just eight shots to score 21 points. Monta Ellis netted 17 points, Chandler Parsons and Brandan Wright both added 14 and Tyson Chandler pulled down 10 rebounds in Dallas' ninth straight home win over Philadelphia.

Guard J.J. Barea had 11 assists off the bench and all 13 players on Dallas' active roster scored at least two points. The Mavs shot 51.3 percent from the floor and the Sixers shot 29.9 percent.

Saturday's game will conclude a four-game homestand for the Mavericks. They dropped the first one against the Miami Heat, but toppled Sacramento and Philly. The Mavs head to Charlotte and Washington for two games during the week.

While the Mavs were on the good end of an embarrassing blowout, the Wolves can relate to the Sixers. Minnesota fell in New Orleans, to the Pelicans, 139-91, on Friday night.

"I'm at a loss for words," said Timberwolves guard Kevin Martin. "Being a competitor, you don't wish nights like this on anyone."

Andrew Wiggins paced the Timberwolves with 20 points and Corey Brewer netted 18 off the bench. Zach LaVine, who started in place of the injured Ricky Rubio, chipped in 13.

Minnesota has lost four straight overall and three in a row in New Orleans. The Pelicans set franchise records for points in a game, points in a half, margin of victory and field goal percentage (66.7). They also tied the franchise mark with 15 3-pointers made.

Thaddeus Young was not with the team Friday and is on an indefinite leave of absence following the death of his mother.

The Timberwolves won three of four meetings between the two last season. Minnesota has taken four of the last five games staged in Dallas.
