Wizards try to build momentum with Orlando in town

Feb 9, 2015 - 3:10 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Washington Wizards got back on track their last time out and hope the success continues Monday versus the Southeast-rival Orlando Magic from the Verizon Center.

The Wizards ended a five-game slide with a convincing 114-77 ravaging of the Brooklyn Nets Saturday night, as John Wall spearheaded the victory with 17 points and seven assists. Rasual Butler scored 15 points, Kevin Seraphin had 13 and Otto Porter registered 12 in the win.

The Wizards recorded a season-high 62 points off the bench.

"We played the right way. We got back to playing defense first," Wall said. "A lot of guys just touched the ball. We didn't care who was scoring."

Washington, which had lost its previous three home contests, posted its first win at Verizon Center since Jan. 19 against Philadelphia and shot 50.6 percent for the game. The Wizards added 19 points off 15 Brooklyn turnovers and recorded their largest margin of victory this season.

Wall is averaging 19.6 points, 10.7 assists and 4.9 rebounds in his last nine games for Washington, which is 19-8 in DC and will visit Toronto next on Wednesday.

Wizards guard Bradley Beal (toe) is questionable Monday. Beal did not play against the Nets and is averaging 15.0 ppg.

The Magic have lost 11 of their last 12 games, and suffered a 98-97 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Sunday. Bulls All-Star Pau Gasol had 25 points and 15 rebounds, and scored the go-ahead basket on a putback dunk, capping a 7-0 run to end the game.

"We didn't get to him," said Magic interim coach James Borrego. "He was free on the board. We didn't get a body on him."

Chicago trailed by six with 2:15 remaining after Victor Oladipo's reverse layup ended a 9-0 Magic burst to make it 97-91. But Orlando never scored again and was led by Oladipo's 18 points and six assists. Tobias Harris scored 15 points and Nikola Vucevic added 14 and seven rebounds for the Magic, who failed to build on Friday's win over the LA Lakers.

Orlando is winless in its last five road games and 10-20 as the visitor. It will start a four-game homestand Wednesday versus New York.

The Magic have lost the first three meetings with Washington this season and are winless in the past seven games in this series. The Wizards have won the last six games at home versus the Magic.
