Heat, Knicks tangle in South Beach
Feb 9, 2015 - 3:13 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Miami Heat are back home briefly with Monday's matchup versus the New York Knicks at AmericanAirlines Arena. The Heat went 1-3 on a recent road trip and have lost three in a row and seven of the last 10 games, including Friday's 98-85 setback at San Antonio in a rematch of last season's NBA Finals.
Tyler Johnson scored 18 points off the bench, Luol Deng added 17 with six rebounds, and Chris Bosh collected 14 points and seven rebounds for the Heat, who trailed by a 77-61 score heading into the fourth quarter.
"Even if we didn't turn the ball over, the defensive mistakes were going to make us pay," Bosh said. "They broke us down a multiple number of times."
Miami center Hassan Whiteside sat out with an ankle injury, and forward Udonis Haslem exited early with a left wrist injury. Whiteside is questionable and Haslem is listed as probable.
After hosting the Knicks, Miami will visit Cleveland and New York.
The Knicks will begin a tour through Florida and are scheduled to visit Orlando on Wednesday.
New York has lost three in a row and five of the last seven games, including Saturday's 106-92 setback to the Golden State Warriors at Madison Square Garden. Carmelo Anthony did not play to rest his sore knee and Langston Galloway paced the Knicks with 15 points.
Jason Smith totaled 14 points and 13 rebounds for New York, which shot 40.2 percent from the field and trailed 32-19 after the first quarter. The Warriors scored 64 points in the first half.
"There's no excuse to start out slow and give up two 32-point quarters," said Knicks forward Quincy Acy. "That's too many points, especially to a team this good."
The Knicks are winless in three straight on the road and have an abysmal 3-22 record outside Madison Square Garden.
New York dropped an 86-79 decision to Miami on Nov. 30 and Anthony scored a game-high 31 points on 11-of-26 shooting. Dwyane Wade, who is out with a hamstring injury, paced the Heat with 27 points.
The Heat have won four straight against the Knicks.
