Wizards aim to bounce back against Pistons

Feb 22, 2015 - 3:39 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Washington Wizards were humiliated on their home floor the last time out, so they'll try to bounce back with a visit to the Detroit Pistons Sunday at The Palace.

Washington sustained a 127-89 beatdown at the hands of LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers Friday night at the Verizon Center. James scored 28 points and Kyrie Irving added 25 with seven assists.

The Wizards, losers in seven of their last nine games, received 18 points and nine assists from John Wall. Nene also had 18 points, but he left the game in the third quarter with what was termed a cramp. He limped off the court after his right knee collided with Cleveland's Timofey Mozgov.

"We've got to get back to working hard, putting more time in," Wizards coach Randy Wittman said. "I've got guys complaining about playing time all the time. Well, here it is, what are you going to do with it?"

Nene is questionable for the Wizards, who hope to stop a four-game road losing streak and are 13-13 outside of DC this season. Wizards guard Bradley Beal (mild stress reaction right leg) missed his fourth straight game and will most likely sit against the Pistons.

Washington will host Golden State on Tuesday.

The Pistons are 1-1 on a five-game homestand and have alternated wins and losses in seven games this month.

Detroit came out on the right end of a 100-91 victory over the Chicago Bulls Friday night, as Andre Drummond posted 18 points and 20 rebounds and all five Pistons starters reached double figures in scoring. Greg Monroe scored 20 points with six boards and Caron Butler netted 20 with four steals for Detroit, which opened the third on a 29-7 run and took a 71-60 advantage with 3:02 left in the quarter.

Chicago cut Detroit's lead to just three (79-76) with 7:04 remaining, but the Pistons held on to snap a three-game losing streak to the Bulls. Rookie Spencer Dinwiddie capitalized on his first career start, tallying 12 points and a game-high nine assists

"I thought he did about as good a job as he could do," praised Detroit coach Stan Van Gundy. "He was poised the whole time, didn't turn it over at all in the second half. Couldn't ask for much more."

The Pistons are 11-18 at The Palace and will also host Cleveland and New York on this stay.

Detroit was active during Thursday's trade deadline and acquired guard Reggie Jackson and former Piston forward Tayshaun Prince in separate deals. Guards D.J. Augustin and Kyle Singler were shipped to Oklahoma City, while forwards Jonas Jerebko and Luigi Datome were traded to the Celtics.

Monroe is posting an average of 17.3 points and 11.2 rebounds in his last nine games, while Drummond is averaging 15.0 points and 13.5 boards over the past six.

Washington defeated Detroit, 107-103, back on Nov. 12 in the nation's capital, as Wall scored 27 points and handed out 11 assists. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 20 points in that one for the Pistons, who will visit DC on Feb. 28.

The Wizards have won three of the last four games in this series.
