Hawks take winning streak to south Philly

Mar 7, 2015 - 3:11 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Dirk Nowitzki, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James have fell victim to the Atlanta Hawks during their six-game winning streak.

The Philadelphia 76ers come up short on the superstar radar and will try to slow down the fearless Hawks Saturday at Wells Fargo Center.

Atlanta disposed of James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in Friday's 106-97 victory at Philips Arena, and stormed out to a 36-19 lead after the first quarter. Cleveland fought back to make it interesting in the fourth, but the Hawks were too much down the stretch.

Kyle Korver buried an emphatic 3-pointer for a 91-81 lead and the Hawks finished with six players in double figures. Al Horford scored 19 points, Paul Millsap and Jeff Teague recorded 16 apiece and Dennis Schroder added 15 off the bench. Mike Scott and DeMarre Carroll had 14 and 11 points, respectively.

"You don't want to say it's just one more game, because they are a great team and you don't want to disrespect any team," said Scott. "Don't think too highly of yourself, don't think too low of yourself."

Atlanta forced 18 turnovers, including nine from James, who shot just 5-of-13 for 18 points.

"It was the first time they used that game plan on us. They kind of caught us by surprise," said James afterward. "Down the road, if we get to that point, we'll be all right."

The Cavaliers were the preseason favorite to win the Eastern Conference after James and Kevin Love joined forces with Kyrie Irving. The Hawks sent a clear message Friday night.

Atlanta, which has the best record in the NBA at 49-12, outscored the Cavaliers by a 54-24 margin in the paint and shot 51.2 percent for the game. During the winning streak, the Hawks have held the opposition below 100 points.

The Hawks are 32-8 against the East and will play seven of the next eight games on the road. They are 20-8 as the guest this season.

Philadelphia opened a five-game homestand with Friday's 89-83 loss to the Utah Jazz, as Isaiah Canaan scored 16 points and both Luc Mbah a Moute and Ish Smith ended with 14.

The 76ers shot 36.4 percent and have lost four straight and nine of their last 10 contests.

"Their defense was very good," said Sixers coach Brett Brown of the difference in the second half. "We missed a lot of shots that our shooters normally (make)."

Brown's squad is 8-22 at home and will also host Chicago, Sacramento and Brooklyn on this residency.

Philly sits last in scoring with 90.6 ppg and is set to face an Atlanta defense ranked fourth in opponents' scoring (96.4 ppg).

The Hawks are 3-0 against the Sixers this season and unbeaten in the past seven games in this series. Atlanta has prevailed in each of its last three visits to the City of Brotherly Love.
