Rockets commence road trip in Denver

Mar 7, 2015 - 3:25 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Houston Rockets will depart the Lone Star State for the next four games and look to take care of the Denver Nuggets Saturday at the Pepsi Center.

The Rockets are winless in their last three road games and will also visit Portland, Utah and the LA Clippers on this western sojourn. They are 18-11 outside the Toyota Center.

Houston ended a two-game slide with Friday's 103-93 triumph over the Detroit Pistons, as James Harden recorded his third triple-double of the season with 38 points, 12 assists and 12 rebounds. Harden's three triple-doubles this season are the most in a single season by a Rocket since Clyde Drexler had three in 1996-97.

"It's all about having fun, especially when your back is against the wall," Harden said. "You just lost two in a row. Two tough games. You have to get a win. So, we went out there and had fun. We executed and played together."

Terrence Jones had 17 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and two steals for the Rockets, who have won six of their last eight games. Corey Brewer contributed 15 points off the bench.

The Rockets are fourth in the Western Conference, just behind Portland for third and slightly ahead of the fifth-seeded Clippers.

Denver will begin a four-game homestand Saturday versus Houston, New York, Atlanta and Golden State, and is 13-18 in the Rockies.

The Nuggets had a brief two-game winning streak stopped in Friday's 120-111 loss to the defending champion San Antonio Spurs and were led by Ty Lawson's 23 points and nine assists.

Kenneth Faried provided 20 points and 10 boards for Denver, which shot 52.3 percent from the floor and lost for the 20th time in the last 24 games.

"It seems like they're a slow, half-court team," Denver forward Darrell Arthur said of the Spurs. "However, they get any shot they want to and they move the basketball. They're probably one of the best teams that do that. They executed well towards the end."

The Rockets are 2-0 against the Nuggets this season and will host them March 19 in Space City. Houston has won four of the last five games in this series.
