Spurs seek redemption in Milwaukee
Mar 18, 2015 - 2:05 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Antonio Spurs look to pick themselves up from an embarrassing loss when they visit the Milwaukee Bucks Wednesday at the Bradley Center. The Spurs dropped a 104-100 overtime decision to the woeful New York Knicks Tuesday at Madison Square Garden and had all their guns in the lineup. The Knicks used a fourth quarter rally and scored eight of the 12 points in overtime.
Tony Parker scored 21 points, Tim Duncan added 17 and eight rebounds, and Kawhi Leonard added 13 for the Spurs, who shot 38.3 percent from the floor and fell to 16-17 on the road. Tiago Splitter ended with 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in a losing cause.
"They moved the ball better than we did, they played better team basketball," said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. "We didn't respect the game, we didn't respect our opponent."
San Antonio, which is a game behind Dallas and the LA Clippers for the fifth seed in the West, has dropped two of three games since a six-game winning streak and will host the Boston Celtics Friday night.
The Bucks hope to keep their playoff aspirations alive and sit sixth in the Eastern Conference. They have lost three in a row and 10 of the past 13 games, including Tuesday's 85-84 setback to the New Orleans Pelicans.
Giannis Antetokounmpo and Ersan Ilyasova scored 15 points apiece, while Jerryd Bayless and John Henson each posted 14 points for Milwaukee. Ilyasova's 3- pointer with a second remaining was off the mark and Tyreke Evans secured the rebound and the outcome.
"We put ourselves in position to win and we just came up one shot short," Bucks coach Jason Kidd said.
Milwaukee completed a three-game road trip with its ninth straight road defeat.
The Bucks are 19-12 at home this season and will visit Brooklyn Friday.
San Antonio topped Milwaukee, 101-95 on Jan. 25 in the Alamo City, as Duncan recorded 20 points and 11 rebounds. San Antonio took both meetings with Milwaukee last season and is riding a five-game winning streak in this series.
The Spurs lead the all-time series with the Bucks, 44-36.
