Jazz make quick turnaround against Kings

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Utah Jazz look to get back on track Sunday evening against the Sacramento Kings.

The Jazz had won three in a row until suffering an 87-85 setback to the Phoenix Suns Saturday night on the road.

Gordon Hayward paced the Jazz with 21 points, Rodney Hood and Derrick Favors scored 17 and 14 points, respectively, and Rudy Gobert pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds.

Utah had a 68-65 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Suns athletic guard Gerald Green provided seven straight points and P.J. Tucker staked the hosts to an 80-76 lead on a 3-pointer with 6:05 to play. Hayward responded with Utah's next seven points, getting his team within 84-83 with 2:39 remaining.

The Suns then squeezed out the close to win to stay alive in the Western Conference playoff race.

"I thought we executed pretty well down the stretch," Jazz coach Quin Snyder said. "We had a few looks that were pretty good looks."

The Jazz are 15-23 on the road and will host Sacramento Wednesday.

Utah guard Trey Burke (back) is listed as questionable tonight.

Sacramento is mired in a four-game losing streak following four straight wins, and fell to 4-8 in the last 12 tries with Friday's 101-95 defeat at the hands of the New Orleans Pelicans.

DeMarcus Cousins recorded 24 points, 20 rebounds and a career-high 13 assists for his second consecutive triple-double, becoming the first Kings player to do that since Chris Webber in the 2004-05 season. The Big Cuz joined Wilt Chamberlain and Elgin Baylor as the only players in NBA history to record consecutive 20-point, 20-rebound, 10-assist triple-doubles.

Cousins, who has posted 46 double-doubles, also had four blocks and a steal versus the Pelicans, while Ben McLemore and Omri Casspi each added 17 points. Ray McCallum scored 14 points for the Kings, who had won three straight at Sleep Train Arena.

"In the fourth quarter we missed open shots that could have gotten us over the hump," Kings coach George Karl said.

Karl is 8-15 since taking over during the All-Star break.

Kings forward Rudy Gay (concussion) has missed the last two games and is averaging 20.9 ppg. He is out indefinitely.

Sacramento is 16-22 at home and will also host Minnesota on this three-game stay.

The Kings and Jazz have split two games this season. Utah has won three of the previous four encounters in this series.
