Sonics G Watson breaks thumb
Jul 2, 2008 - 7:00 AM SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Seattle SuperSonics guard Earl Watson suffered a fractured right thumb while playing in basketball game in Los Angeles in preparation for next season, the team announced Tuesday.Watson is scheduled to undergo surgery Thursday in Los Angeles and will be sidelined for three to four months.
"We are confident Earl will work hard towards a healthy and timely recovery and look forward to getting him back on the court," Seattle general manager Sam Presti said.
The 29-year-old Watson, who took over the point-guard duties from Luke Ridnour last season, averaged a career-best 10.7 points and 6.8 assists in 78 games. A seven-year veteran, Watson has averaged 7.4 points and 4.5 assists in 529 games with Seattle, the Denver Nuggets and Memphis Grizzlies.
