Sonics ink first-rounders Westbrook, White
Jul 5, 2008 - 12:57 AM SEATTLE (Ticker) -- The Seattle SuperSonics signed guard Russell Westbrook and forward D.J. White to multi-year contracts on Friday.Terms were not disclosed.
Westbrook, 19, was selected with the fourth overall pick in the draft on June 26. As a sophomore at UCLA, the 6-3, 187-pounder was named the Pac-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year, ranking third on the team in scoring with 12.7 points per game while leading the Bruins with 4.3 assists.
White, 21, the 29th overall pick in the draft, was acquired from the Detroit Pistons in exchange for two second-round selections.
As a senior at Indiana University, the 6-9, 251-pound White was the Big 10 Conference Player of the Year last season, averaging 17.4 points and 10.3 rebounds en route to second-team All-America honors.
