Centenary defeats Southern Utah 93-85 in OT

Dec 4, 2009 - 4:31 AM SHREVEPORT, La.(AP) -- Roman Tubner scored 30 points and Centenary pulled away from Southern Utah in overtime for a 93-85 victory in the Summit League opener for both teams on Thursday night.

Southern Utah took a 77-75 lead in overtime, but Daman Starring scored and then teamed with David Perez on consecutive 3-pointers for an 83-79 lead with 2:08 remaining.

Matt Marseille added a layup for an 85-79 lead and the Gents (4-2) sealed the game at the free throw line.

Centenary shot 41 percent from the floor (26-for-64) and made 11 3-pointers.

Perez, who entered the game averaging 23.2 points, scored 15 points, Jerrald Bonham added 12 points and Maxx Makwaasah scored 10 for the Gents.

Davis Baker was 12-for-19 on his way to 34 points to lead Southern Utah (3-5), which lost its third straight game. Jake Nielson scored 20 and Matt Massey added 13 points for the Thunderbirds.
