Coastal Carolina moves onto semis; beats VMI 82-73

Mar 3, 2010 - 2:22 AM CONWAY, S.C.(AP) -- Chad Gray and Logan Johnson each scored 21 points to lead Coastal Carolina to an 82-73 win over Virginia Military Institute on Tuesday night in the quarterfinals of the Big South Conference tournament.

Joseph Harris finished with 12 points, 16 rebounds, five steals and four assists for the top-seeded Chanticleers (27-5), who have won six in a row. Coastal Carolina advances to play Thursday in the semifinals against North Carolina-Asheville, which beat High Point 84-73.

The Chanticleers, who beat VMI 101-71 on Feb. 27, went into halftime with a 15-point lead. Coastal Carolina built a 59-35 lead with 15:16 left in the second half on two free throws by Kierre Greenwood.

The eight-seeded Keydets (10-19) cut the margin to seven on two free throws by Keith Gabriel, who led VMI with 27 points and six rebounds. Stan Okoye had 21 points and eight rebounds, but had six turnovers.
