Texas rolls to win over Oklahoma

Jan 16, 2011 - 12:08 AM Austin, TX (Sports Network) - Jordan Hamilton posted 17 points, six rebounds and four assists as 12th-ranked Texas had an easy time with Oklahoma, 66-46, at the Frank Erwin Center.

"Yeah I got some good shots. My teammates did a great job finding me when I was open," Hamilton said of his performance."

Tristan Thompson scored 15 with eight boards for the Longhorns (14-3, 2-0 Big 12), who have won two in a row since losing in overtime against UConn. Gary Johnson added 14 and Cory Joseph notched 12 points for the victors.

Andrew Fitzgerald had 18 points for the Sooners (8-9, 0-3), who have dropped each of their first three conference tilts in succession. Cameron Clark scored nine points with five rebounds in defeat.

"It's hard to build off something like this, but at the same time we need to look at the positives like how some of our players would come in and fight," Fitzgerald lamented. "It's tough to play in this building."

A 12-0 run early in the contest effectively turned control over to Texas. Joseph's jumper broke a 6-6 deadlock and keyed 12 straight points, ending on a Johnson layup with 8:33 left in the half.

Oklahoma got within 22-15 on a Carl Blair deuce, but Texas opened up a 10- point edge on a Johnson jumper inside a minute before intermission and led 27-19 at the break.

An 11-6 burst from the Longhorns found them ahead 38-25 roughly 4 1/2 minutes into the second half after Johnson sank two from the line.

Texas' advantage swelled as high as 18 points at several junctures later in the half, first occurring on a Thompson free throw for a 52-34 game with 9:34 to play.

The 20-point barrier was finally breached on Joseph's pair at the charity stripe with 1:11 to go.

Texas improved to 13-0 in Big 12 Conference home openers under head coach Rick Barnes...It began a conference slate with two wins of 20-or-more points for the first time since 2006-07...The Longhorns upped their mark under Barnes to 82-15 in Big 12 home contests...Oklahoma connected on just 1-of-15 attempts from beyond the arc, while Texas made good on 7-of-12.
