South Carolina State tops Winston-Salem 63-60

Dec 5, 2009 - 11:44 PM WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.(AP) -- Khalif Toombs nailed four free throws in the final 36 seconds to lift South Carolina State to a 63-60 win over Winston-Salem on Saturday.

Winston-Salem's Brian Fisher made a layup to cut the Bulldogs' lead to 59-58 with 38 seconds remaining, but Toombs made two free throws to push the lead back to three. After a missed jumper from Fisher on the following possession, Toombs made two more free throws to give South Carolina State a 63-58 advantage.

Paul Davis scored a layup for the Rams to bring Winston-Salem within three points, but Fisher's 3-point attempt to tie the game with 3 seconds left was off-target.

The Bulldogs (4-1) were paced by Jason Flagler and Darnell Porter, who scored 13 points apiece.

Davis led the Rams (2-5) with 17 points, while Fisher scored 16.
