Richmond defeats Massachusetts 70-63 in OT

Jan 14, 2010 - 2:56 AM RICHMOND, Va.(AP) -- Darrius Garrett set a Richmond and Atlantic 10 Conference record with 14 blocked shots and Kevin Anderson scored nine points in overtime as the Spiders topped Massachusetts 70-63 on Wednesday night.

The Spiders (13-5, 2-1 Atlantic 10) finished with a team-record 17 blocks.

David Gonzalvez started the overtime period with a 3-pointer and Anderson followed with a pair of field goals, the second for three points for a 62-58 lead.

The Minutemen (7-9, 1-2) could get no closer as Richmond hit 10 of 12 free throws in overtime.

Anderson finished with 19 points and Gonzalvez 16 for Richmond. Garrett also grabbed 13 rebounds.

Freddie Riley scored 20 points and Ricky Harris 18 to lead Massachusetts. It was Harris' 26th straight double-figures scoring game.

Neither team led by more than five points in the second half, which included five ties and five lead changes.
