Cowboys send Missouri to second straight loss
Feb 3, 2011 - 6:32 AM Stillwater, OK (Sports Network) - Keiton Page and Jean-Paul Olukemi both finished with 19 points, and Oklahoma State topped No. 14 Missouri, 76-70, at Gallagher-Iba Arena.Darrell Williams added 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for the Cowboys (15-7, 3-5 Big 12), who snapped a three-game losing streak and gave head coach Travis Ford his 250th career win.
"For us it was good to get a win because they're a very good team," Ford said. "It was important because we haven't been real happy with our basketball play. We have been happy with how hard we've been working and how hard we've been competing. We just haven't been playing very good basketball. Tonight I thought we played better."
Marcus Denmon and Matt Pressey both scored 15 points to pace the Tigers (17-5, 3-4), who have dropped back-to-back games. Ricardo Ratliffe added 13 points while Laurence Bowers and Justin Safford both scored seven in the loss.
"We got a good chance to see what life continues to be like on the road in the Big 12. Every night, you have to show up and you have to play," said Missouri head coach Mike Anderson.
Missouri trailed 39-31 at the half, but a Kim English three-pointer with 4:07 remaining trimmed the Cowboys lead to 69-65. Marshall Moses was sent to the line on Oklahoma State's next possession, and after he made 1-of-2, Page was fouled less then a minute later, also making 1-of-2 to expand the lead to 71-65.
After Pressey and Olukemi traded trips to the line Pressey's mid-ranger jumper at 1:27 cut the Tigers' deficit to 73-69. The Cowboys' Ray Penn attempted a layup at the far end, but after the shot was blocked by Bowers, a streaking Pressey was fouled with 43 seconds remaining, hitting 1-of-2 to make it a one- possession game.
Forced to foul, the Tigers sent Page to the line, where he made both. Missouri missed its next two shots before Olukemi hit one more free throw to ice the game and account for the final margin.
Williams led the Cowboys with 10 points and seven rebounds in the first half, while Page contributed 10 of his points in the opening 20 minutes. Oklahoma State shot 46.4 percent from the field for its eight-point halftime lead.
