Jayhawks pummel Cowboys behind Morris twins

Feb 22, 2011 - 5:58 AM Lawrence, KS (Sports Network) - The Morris twins shot 15-for-23 and combined for 42 points, leading third-ranked Kansas to a 92-65 rout of Oklahoma State at Allen Fieldhouse.

Marcus Morris ended with 27 points while Markieff netted 15 for the Jayhawks (26-2, 11-2 Big 12), who outscored the Cowboys (16-11, 4-9) by 24 points in the first half to take control.

Kansas continued to rebound from last week's loss at Kansas State. The Jayhawks beat Colorado on Saturday before recording Monday's victory, but both of those wins came against lower-tier Big 12 teams. Both also occurred at home, where Kansas is 15-1 this season.

The Jayhawks play at Oklahoma on Saturday before hosting No. 21 Texas A&M on March 2.

"This is a must-win for us," said Kansas head coach Bill Self of the Oklahoma game. "OU is playing a lot better, and that's not coach speak. They are playing everybody tough."

Marshall Moses poured in 27 points, shooting 8-of-11 from the field despite battling an illness the last two days. But he could not lead the Cowboys out of Lawrence with a victory, as they lost their fourth game in a row.

"They are just a really efficient team and that's the best way I can describe it," Moses said. "You have to really be on your Ps and Qs to try and get a win, especially in their own gym."

Oklahoma State never led, but was still in the game when Moses knocked down a jumper with 11:49 left in the first half, bringing his team within 24-19.

But the Cowboys didn't score for the next six-plus minutes, allowing Kansas to pull away. The Jayhawks netted 12 points during Oklahoma State's cold stretch, ending with Thomas Robinson's free throw.

Robinson was playing for the first time since undergoing knee surgery on February 11. The procedure repaired a meniscus tear in his right knee and kept him out of the Jayhawks' last three games.

When Robinson entered Monday's contest for the first time, he did so to an ovation from the crowd. The cheers were for his return from the injury, but also seemed appreciative of a player who's endured a season of hardships. Prior to the knee injury, Robinson missed a game because of his mother's death.

The sophomore forward finished with six points in 10 minutes Monday, and following his 1-for-2 performance at the line with 5:53 on the clock, Kansas continued to pull away.

Tyrel Reed's layup in the final minute gave the Jayhawks a 52-28 advantage at the break, and they led by at least 20 points for almost the entire second half, during which they shot 52 percent.

Kansas junior guard Tyshawn Taylor was suspended indefinitely by Self on Monday for violating team rules...Elijah Johnson scored 15 points for Kansas, while Mario Little pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds...Reger Dowell had 10 points for the Cowboys...The victory gives Kansas 26 wins for the fifth consecutive season.
