Purdue faces Indiana in key Big Ten contest

Feb 19, 2008 - 12:58 PM No. 15 Purdue (21-5) at No. 14 Indiana (21-4) 7:00 pm EST

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana (Ticker) -- The Kelvin Sampson watch continues when Indiana hosts first-place Purdue on Tuesday in one of the biggest games of the year in the Big Ten Conference.

The Boilermakers (21-4, 12-1) lead Wisconsin by one game with the Hoosiers (21-4, 10-2) sitting a half-game behind the Badgers, but the game is just a part of the story surrounding the embattled Indiana coach.

On Wednesday, the NCAA accused Sampson of five major rules violations, including providing false and misleading information to investigators. On Friday, university officials announced it would conduct a second internal investigation, which is supposed to be completed by Friday.

Indiana responded with an 80-61 thrashing of Michigan State on Saturday. Senior forward D.J. White injured his left leg late in the first half and didn't return to the court, but did make it back to the sidelines before the second half ended. White is averaging 17.1 points and 10.2 rebounds for the Hoosiers.

Freshman guard Eric Gordon leads Indiana at 21.7 points per game. Indiana is 5-1 at home in conference play and 14-2 overall.

Purdue is on an 11-game winning streak and is 5-1 in conference road games. Freshman guard E'Twaun Moore leads the Boilermakers' balanced scoring attack at 11.9 points per game.

Tuesday's game is the only meeting between the teams this season.
